Curriculum Description- PE

6th grade PE

Students in this co-educational class will develop skills and understand game rules and regulations as they participate in challenging games and team sports. Some of the sports and activities 6th graders get to be involved in are: soccer, softball, flag football,, basketball, volleyball climb on our Traversing Wall and many MORE!

7th grade PE

Students will participate in a variety of cardiovascular and fitness activities as well as participate in individual, dual and lifetime sports. Some of the activities in the 7th grade are: badminton, core fitness stations, handball, golf, softball, volleyball and DDR (Dance Dance Revolution)!

8th grade PE

Emphasis will be placed on team sports as well as becoming a life-long learner and a physically active individual. They will also get to try out their skills with Lacrosse and Archery, only offered in the 8th grade.

Curriculum - Health

The goal of this class is to develop positive attitudes and behaviors that enhance the optimal physical, mental, and social well-being of every student here at Falcon Creek.
Topics to be addressed:

Wellness - understanding the 3 sides of wellness (physical, social, emotional/mental) and how it relates to overall health

Stress Management and Depression -  recognizing and dealing with stress in positive and healthy ways as well as understanding the signs and symptoms of depression

Nutrition -  how to read a label, fast food trends, body image, eating disorders and much more...

Positive Decision-Making  - using the 6-step plan to solve real-life situations

Adolescence and Puberty - physical, social and  emotional changes that occur.

Male and Female reproductive systems

Abstinence/Refusal Skills - applying strategies and skill needed for abstinence and examine reasons for being abstinent

AIDS/STD’s - identify and recognize known causes and forms of transmission as well as prevention (refusal skills)

Drug resistance (including Tobacco and Alcohol) current trends of drugs and drug abuse (refusal skills)
