7th Grade Social Studies
Regions of the Eastern Hemisphere
Seventh grade Social Studies is a regional studies course of the Eastern Hemisphere, focusing on Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.  Emphasis is placed on the historical and cultural background of the people in these areas, as well as their interdependence upon each other.  Geography skills and current events are also stressed.
Learning the Eastern Hemisphere
s Colonization, imperialism,  nationalism, chronology, and the influence of geography
s Components of civilization, cultural universals, interdependence, and government
s Monotheism, polytheism, ethnocentrism, and tolerance for ambiguity
s Ancient civilizations
Learning the skills of history, geography, and economics
s Use current and historical maps
s Use latitude and longitude
s Use research skills
s Obtain information from a variety of sources
s Distinguish fact from opinion
s Understand cause and effect
s Analyze and determine relationships
s Apply problem-solving
s Understand societal needs and wants
s Recognize human diversity
s Demonstrate familiarity with subject matter vocabulary
